Bow Tie Cinema at the Harbour Center continues its weekend "Cine Classic" film series with the 1961 film version of one of the most popular and enduring Broadway shows ever, West Side Story (1961).
Winner of 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, West Side Story was a huge hit with both audiences and (most) critics of its day (be sure to come to my pre show presentation to learn which prominent critic hated the film!) Particularly known for the innovative and original choreography of Jerome Robbins, the film also benefitted from the steady directing skills of Robert Wise.
Featuring a memorable score by composer Leonard Bernstein, the film gives a perhaps overglamorized, but still touching, retelling of Romeo and Juliet set amidst warring "west side" gangs of NYC.

As always, my commentary will cover little known facts about the film's stars, director and production. Audience questions and discussion are encouraged both before and after the screening.
Admission is $5.50 ($4.50 with a Bow Tie free Criterion Club card which can be obtained online at Bow Tie's website or at the theater.)
