Antioch Writers Group Monthly Meetup

  • December 17, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Writers will bring their works in progress, read them to the group and seek feedback. If you have a work to share, please bring at least 6 copies to pass around.

Please email Amy Blue directly, if you would like her to make copies for you in advance to be passed out for the meetup.

This group is self-sustaining due to the organizer's schedule who is not able to attend. However, if an assistant organizer is able to attend, they can help lead the group for that specific meetup. Members are encouraged to keep sharing to 10-15 minutes each, if the group is larger.

You can ask the library for a bigger conference room if the one usually used (downstairs in corner) gets too crowded.

When Amy is able, she will schedule a writing related speaker for the group at least once a year.

Please email M.O. or Amy Blue with any additional questions if needed.

Sorry I haven't been around in a while... I'm 6 months pregnant believe it or not, and had some wicked sickness for a while. Then I had scheduling conflicts, and now I'm afraid I'm too exhausted by that time of day to make the long drive in, especially in such cold weather. I'll be back in April or May (hopefully) after the baby's born. Take care, and Happy holidays!

Maybe we can tweak it month by month based on how many people are coming. It looks to be a light group this month, so I doubt we'll have trouble getting through everyone's stuff. But we can all check the # of RSVPs a couple of days before and start a discussion on what we'll have time to talk about. We could even start a thread asking who's bringing stuff and how much.

That's a great idea. The challenge might be that not everyone responds when they are coming.

I do enjoy the different viewpoints and discussion. Thoughts about the writing has nearly always been substantive and valuable.
I do think that someone assume charge of the flow of sharing, however.
I am unable to attend this month.

I like the interaction with other writers with different points of view. I like the different genres they write in. I like the way discussions branch out from writers' books to encompass many other ideas. This is what creative writing is all about. It is very inspiring to have many kinds of books discussed, and to meet the people who acutally write them. As a creative writer and illustrator of children's books, I enjoy this group.

I think that we ned to have some house-keeping guidelines, ie short intro statement if if desired..not more than a few statements if necessary. Please each person that has something to read bring ample copies even if reading from computer or book. Discussion should be pertinent to the piece being read with minimal background. This may sound controling and I think some control is necessary periodically as we are all seeking feedback. Thanks I value this group input.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
