On a clear day, it'll be spectacular and breathtaking here.
I've been wanting to ride this flat easy coastal trail again after so many years off. The cities have vastly improved many sections. The route I would pick stays really close to the coastline and avoids as much street traffic as possible. The SF Bay Trail is supposed to be a paved dedicated biking/ pedestrian path.
We'll be going through some loose patches of gravel and dirt. Any type of bicycle is okay, but tires for off road will be better. Men or women okay. Any fitness level okay. Beginners okay. We'll take many breaks and won't leave anybody lost. I have a key to the Berkeley Marina restrooms, so we'll definitely pause there for a break.
Points of interest:
• board walk
• dog park
• Albany bulb
• GG Fields back lot
• Cesar Chavez Park
• Berkeley Marina
• Pedestrian/Bike Bridge
• Street Level Cycles bike shop
• Aquatic Park
On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being easiest, I would say this is level 1. There's only a 40-ft hill (compare to 500+ ft climbs in mountain biking), and the distance of 27 miles.
Rain will postpone.
Will be 3 to 4+ hrs depending on how far and fast we go. Tires will roll at 1:13 PM if most riders are ready. Please plan to arrive early if you're not familiar. Give yourself some time to get your bike ready. We don't want to start without you but will if we have to.
• your bike
• hydration (water bottle or Camelbak)
• windbreaker jacket (depending on weather)
• snacks or energy food optional (I'll bring some to share)
• sunglasses optional but helpful (you also want to look cool)
• camera optional
Parking & Transit
Plenty at the meeting spot. Nearest BART is Richmond Station, which is a 10min street ride (16th St to Richmond Greenway to Marina Way to Regatta). If there's enough interest, we'll need another ride leader to bring people from the BART station.
