Let's have another go at this hike with hopefully better weather. So far, the forecast says "77, sunny and clear." For those who braved the fog with me this past Wed night, if you get waitlisted I will manually bump you to the "attending" column.
The hike is a 4-mile loop and includes a scenic portion of the Bay Area Ridge Trail. We'll go up a tough hill pretty much all the way to the top where we'll take a break to have dinner and watch the sunset over the Bay. There are benches and a picnic table making this a good rest stop. We'll enjoy panoramic views from the Golden Gate to Mount Diablo. Keep your fingers crossed for a clear night! We should be back at the cars around 9pm, depends how long we take at dinner.
Please bring a working headlamp or flashlight. But come anyway, even if you don't have one. I have extras I can loan to folks.
My hikes tend to be at a slower pace than most meetups so we can enjoy the scenery and the conversation. Fast-pace hikers are welcome to join and run ahead - all I ask is that you please wait at all trail intersections esp. during night hikes!
Please bring at least 1.5L of water, dinner, headlamp/flashlight, and snacks to share if you want. Wear good hiking shoes and warm layers (may be windy at the top). I want you to be warm and comfy while we linger at dinner - please bring an extra layer, gloves, hat, jacket... whatever you need to keep warm. Your sweetheart and red wine works, too :)
There are restrooms at the trailhead.
Trails are dog-friendly. Woof!
MEETING SPOT AND DIRECTIONS
We will meet at the Padre Picnic Area - a paved lot along South Park Drive. I know Google says that South Park Drive is closed in April, but it's closed only up until April 1. It is now open!
The Padre Picnic Area is labeled in Google Maps if you zoom in enough (and the big paved lot is clearly visible in satellite view).
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE look up directions ahead of time. It sucks getting lost in Tilden with no cell reception (been there, done that). We will only wait a few minutes past the posted start time. I am timing this to watch the sunset at the top.
