Let's do another after-work hike to enjoy the long sunny days. This is a scenic 5-mile loop with about 1,000ft elevation gain. We'll start off on a shaded creekside trail, go by Jewel Lake and then climb up to Wildcat Peak where we'll have dinner and watch the sun set (8:35pm) and the City light up at night. We may get views or we may get fog I never know what the Bay Area weather gods have in store for us. Keep your fingers crossed for a clear night!
We will walk back to the cars in the moonlight via a 2-mile paved (!) trail. If you've never hiked in the dark before, this is a very user-friendly way to start: on a paved trail and guided by the moon light. If the moon is not obstructed by clouds, we won't even need our flashlights.
Depending on how long we spend at the dinner spot, we should be back at the parking lot around 10pm. If you hiked with me before, you know we tend to go slower than most meetup/exercise groups so we can enjoy the scenery and the conversation. Fast-pace hikers are welcome to join, all I ask is that you please wait at all the trail intersections esp. at night!
Please bring 1.5L of water, dinner, and snacks to share if you want. Wear good hiking shoes and warm layers (may be windy at the top). I want you to be warm and comfy while we linger at dinner for 30 minutes or so - please bring an extra layer, gloves, hat, jacket... whatever you need to keep warm. Your sweetheart and red wine works, too :) Also bring a working headlamp or flashlight. But come anyway, even if you don't have one. I have extras I can loan to folks.
FYI - We may not be the only meetup group up there. This is a popular spot for sunset watching... we may make new friends.
Sorry, no dogs are allowed in this area of the park.
There are restrooms at the trailhead and a couple of other spots along the way.
MEETING SPOT AND DIRECTIONS
We will meet at the Nimitz Way trailhead at Inspiration Point, a large parking lot off of Wildcat Canyon Rd in Tilden Park. Use the map link above or google "Inspiration Point Tilden Park" or use[masked]°N[masked]°W for your GPS. Please allow plenty of time to drive to the meeting spot and take your time on the narrow and twisting roads in the hills.
Please look up directions ahead of time so you can be on time. We will only wait a few minutes past the posted start time. I am timing the hike to watch the sunset at the top.
Here are some pictures of the creek trail, Jewel Lake, and our dinner spot at Wildcat Peak.
