This is a super big night for hikes and walks as it's the night of the Super Full Moon, the time of year when the moon is at its fullest and closest to earth. The next time will be in August 2014.
Meet: 6:45, depart 7:00 pm sharp
Walk: Approximately 1.5 hours, 3.5 miles, 600 feet elevation all uphill and stairs to top.
Bring: Warm clothes, water, dinner or snacks and a sense of adventure! It's often windy.
Transportation: Bus 108 from SF. There is no bus from Oakland. Easy parking near meeting point.
Celestial Bodies Schedule: Sunset 8:34 Moonrise 8:53 Last light 9:06
I scouted the route today and this is turning out to be a fairly fast-paced, strenuous hike to the top of Yerba Buena Island. You must be in very good cardiovascular shape to keep up. We will stop for views and pics. If you have signed up and feel it's too much, please change your RSVP to "No." For a flat, slow option, you can tour Treasure Island on your own. After YBI, if there is time, we will explore a little bit of Treasure Island, too.
From 8:30-9:00+ pm, I plan on watching the sunset, bridge light show and moonrise while having dinner. The vantage point for the light show isn't super close from TI, but it's still visible and the city lights are beautiful.
Heavy fog will cancel, so check for updates here or just look outside before heading out.
Waitlist Info: This event has a 'manual' waitlist. This means that when a spot opens up, everyone on the waiting list will receive an email. In order to claim the spot, you must visit this meetup event and RSVP "Yes". So watch your email closely. This approach avoids unintentional no-shows and ensures that the people who move up to "attending" are indeed available and interested. Thus, please update your RSVP to "No" if you can not attend. No-showing is noted and may jeopardize your ability to attend future events.
