Claremont Canyon hike & dinner at the Telegraph food trucks

Because of the long waitlist, I posted the same hike (sans food trucks) again for Tuesday. Please sign up for only one of the two days. Thanks!

This will be a 3.5-mile loop hike with 1,000 feet elevation gain to the top of Claremont Canyon to get some exercise and enjoy evening views of the Bay. On the way back we'll detour to the Off-The-Grid food trucks in the South-of-Campus area where 6-7 trucks rotate through every Monday night. PLEASE if at all possible, stay with the group throughout the hike, the dinner, and the after-dark walk back to the cars.  The end time for the outing is posted as 9:15pm.  Either come and plan to stay for the whole thing or don't come at all.  (I know we're all adults so I can't stop you from leaving early if you need to; I'm just hoping to discourage you from doing so.)

The uphill on this hike is VERY STEEP.  It is the most challenging hike in Berkeley, IMHO.  It starts off steep and it gets steeper, with no flat part to give us a respite.  We tend to go slower than other meetup/exercise groups so we can enjoy the scenery and the conversation but this hike will challenge even the fittest amongst us. But who doesn't love a challenge?! Plus, the panoramic views at the top are amazing and make the climb totally worth it.  Keep your fingers crossed for a nice evening with clear views.  The walk down the hill is more manageable - a combination of staircases and pedestrian paths through beautiful Panoramic Hill neighborhood.  I mapped the route here for those interested:

Bring lots of water and wear sturdy hiking shoes. Bring an extra warm layer since it may be windy on the hill and chilly at the outdoor food trucks. The trucks take cards or cash.  Bring a flashlight/headlamp or borrow one from me; I always carry several extras for the group.

There is no restroom along our route.

Trails are dog-friendly. Your dog must be people-friendly and stay on leash at all times.  I know the trails in this park are off-leash, but not everyone in the group is comfortable around dogs so please keep yours leashed.

As always, my number is posted above under the event location.  Please call/text/email should you have any questions about our hike.

The street address is 2700 Belrose Ave, Berkeley, CA 94705. Click on Derby St & Belrose Ave under the event location and a map will open up so you can get directions. Free street parking is usually plentiful in the neighborhood.

Please look up directions ahead of time so you can be on time. We will only wait a few minutes past the posted start time.

Thanks Alina for a great evening. It was a perfect combination of challenging mountain trail and urban steps hiking. Can't think of a better way to end a hike than with dinner at the food trucks with a fun group.

Thank you everyone for coming tonight. My app tracked our hike/walk for 4.2 miles and 1,050 ft elevation gain. And what a beautiful hike! Awesome company, too.
Thanks for sticking with me for the dinner part, too. Much appreciated!:)
See you all soon. Have a good rest of the week.

Listen up waitlisters. I changed the waitlist settings to "manual".

The RSVP limit for this event is 15 people. So when the number of sign-ups drops below 15, everyone on the waitlist will get an email. To snag the open spot, come to the event page as soon as you see the email and manually change your RSVP from "Waitlist" to "Attending". The spots are given out on a first-come first-served basis so if you come to the page but Meetup doesn't let you change your RSVP to "Attending" it means someone else got to it first. Be patient and check you inbox for more openings; multiple spots usually open the day of as last-minute obligations force many to drop out.

This approach for assigning last-minute open spots cuts down on unintentional no-shows and ensures that people who sign up are still interested and can make it even at the eleventh hour.

If you don't get in for today's hike, put your name down on tomorrow's waitlist. I expect last-minute spots will open up there, too. They will be assigned in a similar fashion.
