Sunset hike in the Berkeley Hills

Let's meetup for a sunset&dinner hike in the Berkeley Hills! We will hike through beautiful hidden paths, parks, and stairways.  We'll also check out a secret waterfall :-) And on a clear evening, we'll have nice sunset views of the Bay.  The hike is longer than my usual after work hikes, since we'll be starting earlier.  We'll go for about 6 miles on a route with tons of stairs.  We'll take a dinner-and-sunset-show break at Indian Rock Park towards the end of the hike.

This is an urban hike - meaning that most of the route is on paved paths and streets, through real neighborhoods. The paths in the hills are steep and have LOTS of stairs. If you hate taking the stairs when the escalator is out, this hike is not for you.  There are many back-to-back steep staircases and even though we won't be running up them, your heart will still be racing.  We'll be climbing and sweating quite a bit.  That being said, we tend to go slower than most exercise meetup groups so we can enjoy the scenery and the conversation.  If you're a fast hiker, this hike may not be for you, either.  There is no marked trail to follow.  You can't just run ahead and meet us later... Like it or not, you're stuck with the group :)

Bring - at least 2L of water, picnic dinner, snacks if you want, and a jacket/warm sweater as it may get chilly at our sunset/dinner spot.

Restrooms - Sorry but there are no restrooms by the meeting spot or anywhere else along our route.  Plan ahead.

Dogs - you can bring dogs, but please keep Fido on leash at all times, not everyone in the group is comfortable around dogs. Plus this is an urban hike - I'd worry about the dog taking off into the street.

Kids - you can always bring kids on my hikes. I trust that you read the event description and can tell whether this would be a fun experience for them.

As always, my number is posted above under the event location.  Please call/text/email should you have any questions about our hike.

MEETING SPOT AND PARKING

We will meet at the top of Solano Ave.  There is some free street parking in the neighborhood, but most parking is at meters.  You'll have to pay until 6pm (it will be free after that).  Please give yourself a few minutes to find parking.  Please be on time and update your RSVP if plans change.  We'll only wait a few minutes past the posted start time.

Here are some pictures of what to expect on this urban hike:

One note, the thing we picked along the trails was not ramp, but actually Three Cornered Leek, which is in the same family. It's all still edible though, so no worries!

Ha! When I read the first part of the sentence I thought "oh no, I ate some last night." When I was cleaning it it reminded me of leek.

I made about a quart of walnut/wild garlic pesto. Check out the pictures for what it looked like.
