Cardio hike to Wildcat Peak (Tilden Park)

For those of you interested in a brisk-paced (3.5 mph pace) hike in Tilden Park, please join me on a hike to Wildcat Peak. It's a steady 2 mile hike up to the peak (elevation: 1,211 feet) and I generally get there in 35-40 minutes. Roundtrip is just under 4 miles.

There is a circular stone observation plaza at the top (finished in 1962), a great place to catch your breath and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. If the weather cooperates, you'll have a spectacular view in any direction: the San Francisco Bay, Mt. Tamalpais, Angel Island, San Pable Reservoir, Mt Diablo, and the three bridges: Golden Gate, Richmond Bridge and Bay Bridge.

There are usually bunny sightings on the trail and deer near the parking lot :)

I'm limiting the # to 10 since there are narrow sections.  I usually only see a few people on the trail every time I go on the weekdays so it'll be nice to keep a quiet environment :)

Also, if you are interested, I like to stop at Indian Rock to watch the sunset on the way back.

Attendance Note - if you sign up to attend, you will be counted on to show up. So please keep your RSVP up to date to reflect your intentions to join us. All members who do not show up will be recorded as a NO SHOW in the system. Members with 3 or more No Shows will be removed from the group. Thanks!

Thanks again for a great hike, Wendy! Terrie-Anne and I enjoyed meeting everyone and seeing such great views of the bay! Beautiful.

Fun group! Glad everyone dealt well with the "brisk" pace. It helped to keep warm on this windy evening :) Thanks for being so punctual and for the good company!

Sorry guys! Thought I was on the waiting list and didn't her anything otherwise. Had to go the DMV and just came home. Work in Berkeley and just saw this, bummer! Have been dying to hike too! Next time :)

Sorry I had to change my RSVP last minute, I am still feeling really wiped after a 10.5 mile run this weekend. I was hoping I could recover today, but I think I need to listen to my body and take a day of rest.

I really hope somebody on the waiting list can take my spot!

Yeah, I really hope you do another cardio hike in the future, I tend to like them steep & fast, getting that heartrate up. :)

You should join my trail running Meetup group on Wednesdays- it's called Transports - and is run by a guy named Richie.

I can pick people up from the Downtown Berkeley BART station (please wait in front of the Bank of America building across from the BART exit) if anyone needs a ride. I'll be there shortly before 6:00 p.m. and have room for two more.

I don't have a car, so, if someone could give me a ride from either Mac bart, or downtown Berkeley, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Paul - I can pick you up at Downtown Berkeley BART station (on the side next to the Bank of America). I'll be there just before 6:00 p.m.

Hi Wendy - Thanks for posting this. I made you the event host so you can do more edits to the event. You can go through and set an RSVP limit (or not), email notifications, etc.... Let me know if I can help out in any way (short of being there - that I can't do since I'm leading another hike that day).
Have fun!!! It's a beautiful place. A BAAA favorite :-)

And FYI - Little Farm and the parking lot right next to it are closed until June but you can park on Central Park Drive.

Thanks, Alina. I just did this hike yesterday so I know about the parking lot. You can park in the little area next to it and still access Wildcat Peal (walking around the fencing).
