Same hike 2 days this week: Thursday and Friday. Please sign up for one day only. Thanks!!!
Join us for a 'dinner and sunset show' hike in Tilden Park.
Hike - a 3.5-mile loop with 800ft elevation gain. We will head up beautiful but challenging Laurel Canyon and come back via the Wildcat Peak trail. The distance is short, but I consider this hike moderately strenuous because of the steepness. We will reach the top about an hour into the hike and then watch the sunset over dinner/snacks/wine. We'll enjoy panoramic views from the Golden Gate to Mount Diablo. We may get fog or we may get views, I never know what the Bay Area weather gods have in store for us. Here's hoping for a clear night. We should be back at the cars by 9:30pm, depends how long we take at dinner. If you hiked with me before, you know we tend to go slower than most meetups so we can enjoy the scenery and the conversation. Fast-pace hikers are welcome to join and run ahead - all I ask is that you please wait at all trail intersections esp. during night hikes!
Bring - water, dinner, warm layers, scarf, hat, gloves (it's usually windy and chilly at the dinner spot), and a headlamp/ flashlight/ flashlight app.
Restrooms - there are a couple of port-a-potties at the parking lot. No other restrooms on the trail.
Dogs - Sorry no dogs allowed on this route :(
Kids - you can always bring kids on my hikes. I trust that you read the event description and can tell whether this would be a fun experience for them.
Attendance Note - if you sign up to attend, you will be counted on to show up. So please keep your RSVP up to date to reflect your intentions to join us. All members who do not show up will be recorded as a 'no show' in the system. Members with 3 or more No Shows will be removed from the group.
Questions? - as always, my number is posted above under the event location. Please call/text/email or post a comment here should you have any questions about our hike.
MEETING SPOT AND PARKING
We will meet in a dirt parking lot, where Lone Oak Road deadends. Once you turn onto Lone Oak from Central Park Dr, go past the first parking lot and keep going as Lone Oak becomes a dirt road. Some maps show the dirt road extension of Lone Oak Rd as Loop Rd. Whatever the name, you will be driving on the dirt part until it ends in a locked gate. Park in the lot right before the gate. Even though it's a dirt road, Lone Oak/Loop Rd is in good condition.
Here's a google map with the meeting point: http://goo.gl/maps/bxmvG
Please look up or ask me for directions AHEAD OF TIME. It sucks getting lost in Tilden with no cell reception (been there, done that). We will only wait a few minutes past the posted start time. I am timing this to watch the sunset at the top.
