Anybody want to learn how to slackline

Location:  any park with sturdy trees ~30ft apart.  Tree diameter should be at least a foot with 2+ft being more ideal.

Suggested donation for gear use:  $1 per person

If you want to learn how to setup your own slackline let me know and I help you to determine what gear you will need.

If you already have a slackline or think you have the right gear to set one up let me know too.

If we have enough gear we can setup multiple slacklines of varying lengths.

There are many ways of setting up your own slackline, but I use one of the simplest ways that doesn't require any knots in the line therefore it is stronger and will last longer.

Note:  slacklines generate tremendous forces on the gear and the bouncing causes these forces to be cyclical in nature, therefore any gear used in a slackline should NEVER be used for climbing.  In addition, slacklining causes wear and tear on the gear pretty fast so please feel free to make a nominal donation for those who allow us to use their gear.

I hope you do this again so I can go. I used to slackline regularly and learned on a 1" line. (I know I'm rusty now) I just moved to the area and still have my gear somewhere...I hope.

For those who are on waiting list, you need to change your RSVP to "YES" yourself if you like to join. The system/organizer won't change it for you, and there are spots open. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day and I am really looking forward to it! Thanks Stan!

Hey all - I am teaching this Saturday, but this is a great location (for me personally) and I'd love to come out on another Saturday when I don't have anything going on! Thanks for setting this up Stan!

I have not been getting any responses for this trip so you are still interested in going slacklining please provide the following info:

    1. What general area are you willing to drive to in order to attend this event?
    2. What days, dates, weekends work for you? suggestions welcome
    3. Do you have any slacklining gear already, would you like to learn to setup your own slackline or are you planning on getting any gear?
    4. Is there any information not posted in the details above that I should post?
    5. I will be sending out an email to those who RSVP'd as well. Please let me know if you get the email. Based on the responses it doesn't appear anybody is getting them.

    Thanks.

Doesn't appear like much interest for this weekend so if I don't get more responses by this evening then I will cancel this event and go do some climbing instead.

  • Stan H

Note: I generated another slacklining meetup for this weekend. Please RSVP there is you want to join.

Okay, looks like the weather is going to be dry for slacklining this weekend. Who's up for slacklining this Saturday? or maybe Sunday?

I was thinking of Alameda since that is about central to where most of you live, but we can change the location if it makes sense depending on who RSVP's.

I have been trying to get in much better physical shape for a long time. I hurt my foot badly back in July and allowed it to derail all my efforts. I am back at a horribly unhealthy state. I am talking to a personal trainer right now to try to step up my efforts. If/when I get myself into good shape and loose a ton of weight that I want to lose, i would love to do this type of stuff. For now, I am just not in the shape for this.

    have a great time!

I think I do. Or at least parts. I remember setting it up one time and someone telling me that that is NOT how you do it. But it always worked for us. I think I've just got two beaners and two lengths of webbing. Is that what you meant?

      October 31, 2012

    • Stan H

I dont know how u can set it up with just two biners. I'd like to see that. I use three biners and three lengths of webbing: two for around trees and a third for the line. If not setup correctly, much larger forces can be generated on the gear. I have a a simple setup.

Sounds fun. I'm interested pending location and height.

Quarry lakes in Fremont is a nice park. As a note...it is $5 to park unless we do it on a Sunday.

Garin Park in Hayward is nice too by the picnic area. It is free to park..lots of big trees I can see if there are appropriate ones later this week.
