Alternative Building: Papercrete Workshop

We are very excited for this next workshop where we will be working with papercrete! By simply mixing recycled paper with cement you get an incredibly inexpensive, efficient, and yet lightweight building material. Think industrial grade Papier-mâché. We have just finished a papercrete tow mixer that is able to mix a 150 gallons of papercrete in one batch! With this workshop we will explain how the tow mixer is built, the impressive properties of papercrete and we will be turning an ordinary chain-link fence into a solid papercrete wall that's 75% recycled materials and fire proof!

This is definitely not a meetup to miss, folks!

Please try to bring gloves and glasses/safety goggles if you'd like to participate in building up the fence.

We are asking for $20 per person to come out and see first hand how versatile and easy this building material of the future can be.

    Hey Javier,
I'll see if I don't have some photos to upload.
Didn't paint it or waterproof. Wouldn't paint as it traps if any moisture get's in. Could waterproof by lime plaster. We'll be doing a papercrete workshop in a few weeks...stay tuned. Building a papercrete sprayer that we'll be playing with.

Do you have any photos or videos of the chain link fence workshop? I'm thinking of using papercrete to cover my chain link fence, do you have any tips - instructions? did you painted it or water proofed it after it was dry?

It's doing great. Working on a DIY sprayer and will have workshop when it's warmer. Also a plaster workshop pending.

Natural building seems to be synonymous with intensive labor... but not with a little ingenuity and smart design!

We'll try but usually have our hands full. Maybe someone will now that we all have video cameras with us.

I won't be able to be there, but it would be so cool if you could video tape it!

Had an amazing hard rain last night, swales filled and soaked in 1000s of gallons of water so nice. Rain or shine we'll be holding the workshop so don't let a little water scare you off! PS if you plan on getting your hands dirty (highly suggested but never required) don't wear your sunday best. We'll have some plastic gloves to use as the concrete is caustic but feel free to bring some dishwashing gloves with too.

Bummer. I just got the announcement about this event. I think my email account must be doing some funky filtering of messages. At any rate, I probably won't be able to make it this time.
