The Arizona Hunting Club invites you to attend a hunting workshop for Unit 12A. This workshop will teach you things that no other hunting organization in Arizona will teach you. We will show you how to predict that areas that are most likely to hold animals in this unit using a topographic map. Yes, you will need to buy your own U.S. Forest Service Quadrangle Topographic map, which can be bought at any map store for about $3.

Part two of this course is the actual scouting trip that will take the group to game unit 12A armed with a digital camera and GPS. The purpose of this trip is to find good places to hunt the following week. The group will scout the areas using the scouting map they prepared in class to see if what they thought on paper turned out to be real or full of surprises. Each day every team will scout during the morning and evening and report back to the group what they saw via digital cameras and waypoints recorded on their GPS units. Working together is the best way to find the animals.

The group will leave from Gilbert on Friday at 7:00 pm and camp in Unit 12A.

    •  Teaching kids what to look for in Kaibab is a great experience. Teaching them how to use a topographic map and GPS to located and find stock tanks is a great way to find animals, and then showing them where the funnels and saddles are on the south side of the plateau where the animals are starting to migrate because of conditions on top gives these youngsters a tremendous hunting advantage over the road hunters.
