Art After Dark at the Cincinnati Art Museum

Kick off your weekend with cocktails and entertainment while taking advantage of exclusive evening hours in the galleries. Musical entertainment 6 – 8 p.m.; tours held periodically throughout the evening. Free event with drinks and appetizers available for purchase. Parking at the art museum is $4; free for art museum members.

The April 25 theme is At the Speed of Light and will spotlight the exhibition Todd Pavlisko: Crown. Docents will be leading tours of the Pavlisko exhibition at 6:30 and 7:30. This Art After Dark is all about speed!  The museum will have OTRimprov showing off their speedy spontaneity upstairs in Gallery 229 and you don’t want to miss The Happy Couple Duo, their lightning fast DJs, who will be spinning some beats in the Great Hall.

If you need directions to the Fountain Room, ask for the "Colleen Event" when you arrive. I combined the hosting of this event with this group and the Northern Kentucky Dinner & Social group because I did not expect many to sign up. I was pleasantly surprised--I'm learning as I go. Between the two, about 50 have signed up. The café will be selling appetizers at the bar in the Great Hall. The museum coordinator has given the restaurant staff a "heads up" about the large size of our group.

Parking: Lots of non-meetup people are expected at the museum for this, and the museum opens at 5 pm, meaning non-meetup people might get there at 5 and fill up the parking lot. So, you might find it difficult to park in the museum's parking lot.  Second choice: There is a free, unmarked parking lot on the left just before you pull into the museum drive (just below the museum's parking booth).  Third choice: I'm afraid it's every man/woman for him or herself along the street in the residential area of Mt. Adams.

Thanks Colleen for organizing this meetup.
It was fun meeting new people, viewing the art and the laughing with the improv.

Just an FYI: I'm finding that hosting the same event for several meetup groups doesn't work very well. I'm cutting way back on the meetup groups I participate in. So far, this seems like a very nice group. If you would like to see other events I am hosting, so far it is just the Downtown Cincinnati group. You don't have to live downtown to join.

I hope people enjoyed themselves, but I'd like to add a comment. I've attended many Art After Dark events privately, and I've never seen more than 50 people there, tops. Two months ago, when I posted this event and realized a number of people were signing up, I notified the museum and restaurant staff of the almost doubling in their expected attendance so that they could prepare and have plenty of food for us. Ordinarily, these events are focused on artworks and serious music, which I thought would be perfect for this group. Several weeks before the Art After Dark date, another meetup group heard about my posting and posted their own meetup event at the same place. Unfortunately, they did not notify the museum of the 75 extra people who would be overloading the ability of the museum and restaurant staff. I apologize that the museum took on the character of a singles bar. That was not the event I envisioned for this group. I will be more careful In future events.

Hope people had a good time. I'm very sorry the Boomers ate all the extra food I ordered.

Thanks to one of our attendees who just pointed out that my parking note was unclear about the time our meetup event begins. I have clarified the situation in the Introduction. This meetup event officially begins at 6 pm, which is when I will arrive.

Wow! It's good to remind people to definitely attend if they have signed up as "Yes". :)

If you have not already done so by email, please post whether you definitely plan to attend. I don't usually ask this, but as noted in the main instructions, I'm trying to work with the museum coordinator to make special arrangements for our group.

I am going to try to make the event although I have to work until 7. I have been to the Art Museum on the last Friday of the month and it is a lot of fun. Hope I can join on the 25th.

It's a great opportunity to check out the Art Smith exhibit. He's one of my favorite artists when it comes to modern art jewelry. Wish I could find an affordable piece of his work for my very own!
