RAA Salon #12 Burning Man 2010 Travelogue w/slides - Talk re:attending BM 2011

Last year, I took my wife and daughter to Burning Man in the Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada. I'd heard about the event for years and had always wanted to go. When it appeared we had a 4 day window to get down there and check it out, I jumped at the chance. In 2010 the theme was: Metropolis.

It was such an interesting and stimulation Adventure, I am planning another trip down in 2011. This year's theme will be: Rites of Passage. http://www.burningman.com/

This meetup will feature a travelogue of our road trip to Nevada and a narrated slideshow that will highlight some of the experiences we had. If you have ever been curious about this event, you should come and check out this event. I'd like to form a little groupo of people who can venture down there this year so we'll have our own little built in community while we're there. We could even discuss putting together some type of interactive group camp. But that will require we get a minimum number of committed people together.

There is literally so MUCH to see and do, it would be impossible to take it all in .

We'll also have a discussion on Rites of Passage and how they are important/relevant in today's world. You'll be encouraged to participate in the discussion if you'd like to. What is a Salon? And why should you attend? The short answer is that you should come because it is good for the health of your soul (seriously!)
Historically, the word Salon appeared in 1664 in France. It is derived from the Italian word salone, the large reception hall of a mansion.

At Rediscover the Art of Adventure, a Salon is a congregation of people who gather to socialize and interact with the intention of creating an elevated and eclectic discourse. This type of event is altogether too rare today, but vital in maintaining our positive social Adventure sphere.

Because the RAA Salons usually include a social and artistic element, we may also have a featured guest presenting either a musical offering or some type of performance or reading (contact me directly if you’d like to either do something yourself, or nominate someone else).

We’ll have a break with light and healthy refreshments offered after Myles and Tessa’s presentation. Following that there will be a facilitated discussion amongst the group where ideas will be exchanged; this is our intellectual discourse portion of the agenda. Last time we talked about the education system and why boys are falling behind girls. This time it will be something completely different.

There will be a $5 courtesy donation as part of the evening, which will cover light snacks and refreshments that will be included in the program. Payment can be made prior to the meetup via Paypal, or paid in cash on the spot. Failing to show up after RSVP'ing is poor form, so don't do it.
That behavior is simply disrespectful. Plan to attend and enjoy this special event.

RAA is known for its healthy and creative fare, but it will be light enough that it won't replace your dinner.

Kerry will host the evening and there will be a discussion at the end of the night that will be open to input from everybody.

The NIGHT WILL START ON TIME, so please arrive NO LATER THAN 7:15PM. This is to avoid interruption once the night has started and to give respect to everyone in attendance. Plus, if you are late, there may be a chance that you'll be sitting on the floor as we'll have a full house this time.

Space will be limited, so RSVP soon. And to repeat: if you RSVP 'Yes', do NOT change your RSVP a day or two prior to the event leaving a gap that someone else may have taken had the space been available earlier. It is poor form to cancel within 48 hours of the event.

There is visitor parking underneath the complex for those getting here in time to grab it.
