We are a group of non-traditional Tai Chi artists. We break Tai Chi and put it back together again in new ways, improvising Tai Chi and inventing new forms. We also employ Tai Chi for endlessly creative workouts. Those who are interested may join us in public performances around town for passers-by.
Tai Chi has traditional forms with precise movements, but at its heart it is just a way of harmonizing mind and body. We keep the mind-body core of Tai Chi, apply the wisdom of the traditional forms, and then do our own thing. But we are blasphemously breaking tradition. Your Tai Chi teacher might not approve.
Artful Tai Chi accommodates all individual styles and all levels of expertise. Those who have never done Tai Chi before will find themselves with certain advantages over those who have only done traditional Tai Chi. If you're an experienced Tai Chi practitioner who has never created your own forms, join us and we'll help you break the mold. You'll even learn to create forms on the fly, as you move. Meantime, you can help with teaching Tai Chi forms and technique. Note that we'll be doing forms, not push-hands or applications. Creative Qi Gong could happen too.
Note: This group is momentarily on hold while I think about a better way to run it. If you **already know** Tai Chi and want to get together to do freeform or modular Tai Chi, please send me an email saying so. I want to work out a time for us to get together. I'm hoping we can develop something that we can show people and that others would want to learn.
(The organizer has 9 years of experience studying a variety of traditional Tai Chi forms, but is 7 years out of practice. However, freeform Tai Chi is in his bones and continues to flow uninhibited. He hopes this group will resurrect the rest. The organizer adjusts his Tai Chi for injuries and will strive to accommodate others with injuries as well. Forget precision, we're having fun making art.)
