Global Glimpses, National Geographic's showings of all 5 Oscar-nominated foreign films returns in February over President's Day Weekend. They really do it up right - each film either follows or precedes a reception, all for a very reasonable price. I'm going to list all five films because you can buy the series for just $41. You can also buy each film individually for $9 each. Click here to purchase tickets.
Most likely all films will sell out. A Royal Affair has been playing around a little and received pretty good reviews. The relationship between the queen of Denmark and the German doctor who is her husband’s trusted advisor leads to sweeping changes in the country. Married as a teenager to the mentally unstable King Christian VII, Queen Caroline Mathilde finds herself drawn to the compassionate and intelligent Johann Friedrick Struensee, and the two are soon in love and working together to reform Danish society. (Denmark, 137 minutes) A Royal Affair won the Silver Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival.
A reception precedes the film at 7.
Again, this film will most likely sell out being Saturday night. You can click here to buy a ticket for just this or the entire series. National Geographic is very easy to get to, just a couple blocks from the Metro or they have free underground parking.
