Every year there is a Rehearsal Concert for the Big July 4th 'A Capitol Fourth' Show at the Capitol. It is much more manageable than the actual July 4th show, although it still gets very crowded. We will meet at 5:45 and head over to the grounds (through security) at 6. They usually close the area we're in by about 7. We'll sit on the hill towards the back of the middle area. The show should start around 8.
We'll do a big picnic - always nice to share a little if possible. So bring a blanket or towel - and maybe a hat because it's hot until sun goes down a bit. I know regular chairs are a no-no; Low chairs are ok. Alcohol is prohibited as there is a big security check. It's also nice because the following day is a holiday, so no rush afterwards. We'll meet in front of Botanic Gardens (near Independence Ave.) because that's convenient for drivers AND Metro people - there are a few stops that are close by.
Neil Diamond was just added to the concert. Other performers include the legendary Barry Manilow, Idol winner Candice Glover, country star Scott McCreery, Smash star Megan Hilty, Motown the Musical and the ultra legndary John Williams. Here's a full list:
