Playwright Nicky Silver was a regular for Woolly Mammoth a while ago. Well, he finally hit the big-time - Broadway - with The Lyons last year. This is from Ben Brantley's review in The New York Times:
Welcome to Broadway at last, Mr. Silver. And might I add that that this cozy-but-nasty family portrait is just the right vehicle to bring you here?
This is a Washington-area premiere so it is very exciting. PWYC tickets go on sale at 6:30 and the play starts at 7:30. I put 5:30 to meet because it was nice last time to socialize and relax knowing we were at the front of the line. But if it's like last time, you can come a little later as well. We'll wait in line, get tickets and then walk across the street and grab something to eat at Booeymongers.
Indomitable matriarch Rita Lyons is at a major crossroads. Her husband is dying, her son is in a dubious relationship, and her daughter is barely holding it together. Tempers flare, words are exchanged, and secrets are revealed. Worst of all, Rita can’t figure out how to redesign her living room.
Nicky Silver, the “strange progeny of a coupling between Neil Simon and Edward Albee” (New York Times), brings another of his deliciously dysfunctional families to the stage in this scathingly funny Broadway smash that earned Tony Award and Drama Desk nominations.
