If you feel like something artistic, diverse and social this Friday evening, then look no further. Parish Gallery is one of the most interesting and friendliest galleries in the city, and they anchor the picturesque Canal Square in front of the Sea Catch Restaurant in Georgetown. Also there is the estimable Winter Palace Studio - they recently hosted a workshop in St. Petersburg, Russia! (Victor and Natasha are amazing artists.) The wild and occasionally naked MOCA DC gallery (and our friend Dave) and the longtime tenant Alla Rogers Gallery complete the quartet.
At Parish, the hugely well-respected Percy Martin will be showing his exhibition titled Bushmen Dreams. Wrote Lenny Campello in his excellent art blog: "There are a lot of area artists, mostly those who were schooled around here, who received the spark of creativity from this talented artist, and I know that no art collection with any sort of focus on [local] artists, is complete without a Percy Martin in the collection. Don't miss this show."
The galleries are open from 6-8. The Old Print Gallery, a block away, may be open as well - I'll check when I get there - but mostly we'll be chilling out at these galleries. Afterwards (around 8), we can get something to eat around there. As always when we visit galleries, please be respectful to the talented artists and to the incredibly benevolent gallery owners who contribute greatly to the nice community we share.
