Opera in the Outfield - Mozart's Don Giovanni!

Celebrate the fifth year of free live opera broadcasts at the ballpark with Mozart's masterpiece Don Giovanni on Saturday, September 29. The screening begins at 7 p.m.  Regarded as one of the greatest operas ever composed, Mozart weaves the tale of the legendary rake Don Juan into a comically lighthearted (yet deadly serious) musical masterpiece. "A dark Giovanni of depth, beauty" (The Washington Times).

The forecast looks good!  We don't have a definite leader yet - Richard has agreed to coordinate a bit but he'll need some help.  This seems like a pretty easy event to pull off if a couple people can just bring a sign.  They may also give groups of 10 or more reserved seats - and notice on the scoreboard! - so let's see how this develops during the week and we'll start a discussion among those who are going.

Arrive early to Nationals Park to enjoy entertainment and activities including:

  • Stage Fighting Demonstrations, led by Robb Hunter (Don Giovanni Fight Master and Professor of Theatre, American University)
  • A screening of the Warner Bros. cartoon "What's Opera, Doc?," starring Bugs Bunny and his nemesis Elmer Fudd
  • Chances to win prizes, including tickets to Kennedy Center performances
  • Here's the link for more information.

Take Metro's Green Line to Navy Yard station- it's just a half block from Nationals Park. And remember, Metro has more than 57,000 parking spaces at its stations.

ok, I will be there tonight - we'll shoot for between 5:45 and 6 just to the right of the large front entrance of the stadium as you are approaching from the Metro. I'll have a yellow sign - my number is[masked]

I just spoke with their Group Sales, and there will be a section of reserved seats for groups such as ours. This will give us a central point to head to and come back to after wandering around. LET's MEET just to the right of the main entrance - before you go in - as you are walking towards the Stadium from the Metro. There will be some ticket windows there that we will gather near. Try to shoot for between 5:45 and 6 - because I think some of the pre-show activities will be fun. BRING SOMETHING WARM TO WEAR! Might get chilly in the evening. I'll post a phone # later when leader (either myself or someone else) is confirmed. Glad to see the nice turnout - should be exciting.
