Although it has been fifteen years since one of his films last played in British cinemas, Abel Ferrara is widely regarded as America's most adventurous director. His latest masterpiece, WELCOME TO NEW YORK, is a response to the Dominque Strauss-Kahn scandal. Playing a Kahn-like politician accused of rape, Gerard Depardieu gives a career-best performance in a film which, as so often with Ferrara, has attracted both controversy (DSK is threatening to sue) and admiration. - Brad Stevens
