I named my 3 favorite artists above but I will tell about my most recent and most surprising favorite: Mark Rothko. I saw a program on PBS a few years ago called Simon Schauma's Power of Art. In it, Mr. Schauma tells of the story of several notable pieces from different artists one artist at a time. His approach to the telling is what got me; he made it seem like he was doing an expose on them in present time. Exposing all of their ugly little secrets. Sometimes he would sneer or make a snarky statement about their motives or actions. It was the absolute coolest thing I'd ever experienced in regards to the teaching of art. Absolutely no pretense-bullshit free. Anyway, Simon saved the best, and his favorite, for last: Mark Rothko. I'd never heard of him in my life. I was always a big time impressionism lover. Well, Simon hadn't either when he first came upon Rothko in his 20's. When they showed the first piece, I felt transported. Like nothing I've ever experienced. More later....
I was looking for new Meetups around my interests.
I'd love to but already have a challenging work schedule. I would definitely do what I could to help. Just don't know if I could take on any super important, deadline driven tasks with my schedule. I'd love to talk about it though.
Hi! My name is Tameka. I'd love to join a meetup that would expose me to the art scene in Atlanta. I've gone to the High several times ( I even used to be a member) but I have only heard of some of the other galleries to visit. Art truly inspires me
I'm impressed and excited to support our local artists
