This group was launched several years ago specifically for those who would like to gather for substantial and spirited (though not spiritual) conversation, a.k.a. dialogue. We welcome those who do not hesitate to voice politically incorrect opinions or pierce sacred cows. We intend to stay non-ideological, non-partisan, and non-political.

At the outset we were meeting once or twice a month on a Sunday, often in a garden setting, for brunch. This scheduling has changed over time. Then we went into a dormancy period in 2009. We're trying to crank back up.

To help focus our discussions, we normally select some complementary essays from the superb portal website ~Arts & Letter Daily~ http://aldaily.com , and from other online resources. A look at the home page of ALD website shows that it covers the intellectual waterfront :"philosophy, aesthetics, literature, language, ideas, criticism, culture, history, music, trends, breakthroughs, disputes, and gossip."

We will also attend a play, author talk, or other cultural event which will serve as a springboard for cultural conversation.

An upcoming meeting will be devoted to a discussion of structure--where to gather, topics, communications, etc.

What members are saying

Nice group, interesting people, good discussion!

It's a good place to hear other points of view and step outside of your own head for a while.

“I love this kind of talking. It makes my mouth move in interesting ways. I especially like the two syllable words that start with vowels and end in hard stops, like, "abrupt", "corrupt", "intact", etc.”

“I'm a Socratic-methods sort of person - a bit philosopher, a bit ethicist, a bit pragmatic (sometimes these can be in conflict) - who loves the art of great conversation!”
