It seems as though the wheel has turned yet again. The interest in the Old Gods is waxing. And many of you have spoken to me in person craving an active outlet for experiencing our Germanic spirituality in a more concrete form. I myself have been acting within our greater communities in Austin as one holding an umbrella asking people to be comfortable standing underneath talking amongst yourselves and networking. All I have really tried to do is just hold up the umbrella and see what coalesces amongst the gathered. I have had no real expectation, so I have used that as an excuse, of sorts, to see if something organic springs up from within on its own; something that, perhaps, would not be particularly "mine" so much as it would be "ours".
Over the last six years, I have been coming to terms with events from my past that, despite the most innocent and solemn of intentions, were maligned and destroyed leaving me with an emptiness and a feeling of failure. Still, my inner need for an outlet to express my excitement in honoring ancestry and the Elder Gods through physical esoteric practice remains smoludering within as a hot coal glows red in the bottom of the unattended forge. It takes me a long time to get over events; even longer to get over knowing the potential nature within all people to harshly and erroneously judge, be lead astray by loud ne'erdowells, and those who spread falsehoods in all their ignoble, weasel ways.
With the time at hand, it seems as though my period of mourning and self-loathing will have to be at an end. It seems, though unhumble as it may sound to state in this fashion, that I have to step up and lead again. With the potential of failure taught to me over the last fifteen years by harsh tribulations, I think I can initiate something new and fresh without near the amount of potential for ill doing befalling the effort.
There is a constant involved in doing these deeds. It has not been proven incorrect in the earliest recognition of the pattern. That constant is this: In any group of people, there are only ten percent of those numbers gathered of their own Will that will actually participate in a general sense in whatever group activities that follow. Of those, there are only ten percent that will actually give enough of their time to have the direction of the group ignite their passion to want the group to progress and succeed. On this list, we have 78 self-proclaimed Asatruar; a few already in their own organic group(s). With knowing of some other members in the NAPM and SAPM that may walk under a different label, yet practice and identify very close to our own, our numbers make over 100. And, true to the constant, about ten percent of you/us have spoken with fervor about something like I am about to propose.
There are many terms that get bandied about in our Pagan and Heathen realms like coven and kindred. Coven is more for the Wiccan collective. And kindred is more of a family unit that should start small and intimate. The term that I propose to utilize is "Hall"; easily recognized without the spooky connotations that may come from the observations of the mundane world. A hall is a general construct with a minimum or median of facilitations. It is a place to meet under a general rule of friendship and respect. There are no pledges of personal loyalty, though loyalty to the Noble Virtues shall be understood. There is no fealty involved apart from acknowledgement of one(s) who run(s) or own(s) the Hall. And as with our religious path, there is no dogma or particular iconography with which to be put under yoke.
I full well understand the time constraints on us all between family, work, mundane friends and extracurricular activities. For those of you that have a need for a spiritual outlet beyond being a virtual member of an online group; for those of you who have expressed need, desire, and passion to learn more about the Gods, the runes, and the reclaimed ways in which we pay yearly homage to such; and for those of you who wish to elevate yourselves to be a more Willfull person by strengthening your pride and Will, I would like to invite you to join me in the creation a Hall.
This Hall will have all the aspects that we have come to love as well as loath from online involvement, but also, and predominantly, include personal interaction on atleast a monthly basis. This Hall will involve spiritual workings allowing for toasting and sacrifice, a group study of the Sagas and Eddas that make up the lore of our ancestors, study of runes and runic energy (including Galdr and meditation), study of the Gods and their aspects, and, above all else, a semi-intimate setting so that you do not have the need to feel intimidated by your thoughts, lack of knowledge in the categories, or general phobia of a crowded, unfamiliar room of people.
So, here, now, I formally put it out to you, the Asatruar of this group, if you are willing to take some time and put forth a small bit of effort in helping me to help you and enjoy the next level of involvement in our spiritual pursuits, please step forward and claim a seat in our Hall.
Responses to this call will come to my email address only and this message will not stay resident on the message board. So if you have any comments, questions or concerns, feel free to ask. I look forward in expectation from hearing from about nine of you. I know who most of those nine are. I am looking for those few others that have so far been unable or uneasy in coming forth in any other external forum.
Thank you all for your time in reading this message. May favor fall on you and your family and your hearts and hearths be full with frith, faith, and Folk.
