I'm a nonprofit CEO by day and a science fiction and fantasy writer by night (though sometimes those are reversed or mixed throughout the day). I'm also a cultural anthropologist, evolutionary biologist, and a part-time game and miniatures designer.

Tell us about the kinds of things you create:

I write mostly short stories and novels within 2 main universes: one science fiction, one fantasy. My science fiction universe is an immense space opera-ish construction with hundreds of detailed worlds, species, and cultures. My fantasy universe (a major departure for me as a scientist) is also quite large, with many species, realms, planes, and deities. I also write tabletop games: rules and fluff. I'm working on an alt history dieselpunk-ish universe at the moment.

Has your fiction been published?

Yes, a very long time ago. Hopefully, my game will be produced soon, which will give me a more recent publication date.

What do you feel makes or breaks a fictional world?

Believability. While in all sf, suspension of disbelief is necessary, one has to make the presentation of their world believable within their world. All to often, bad writers (even some considered good) will break the established rules of their own world. This greatly decreases believability.

How did you first get into speculative fiction?

As a reader/viewer, I don't remember. Could have been Star Wars, could have been Star Trek. As a child of the 80s, I was bombarded with science fiction and fantasy. As a writer, I can in at a very young age drawing and writing comic books, both superhero and space opera.
