It's that time again folks, the ULTIMATE HIKE is now open to Asheville area hikers ! Need a goal for 2013 ? Then continue reading.

This is a fundraising event sponsored by the CureSearch Organization to help raise funds for various children's cancer research programs. You can find out more about the CureSearch organization by clicking here: http://www.curesearch.org/

In 12 weeks, you'll be raising donations with your fellow hikers and training hard for a 28.3 mile hike to take place on June 1 ,2013. There is also the option to do a half distance hike if the 28.3 miles is too much for you. The entire hike will be along the picturesque Foothills Trail and in the end, you'll have a very gratifying feeling not only on finishing the hike (personal accomplishment), but also realizing what it ultimately was for....remember, THE BIG PICTURE !!!

Several members of this group, including myself, have already accomplished this hike last year. And this year I have chosen to be a hiking coach alongside fellow hiker & friend Shawn Earnest. For those of you that did this hike last year, please leave a comment on your overall experience please. Thanks.

If you're interested in learning more about this event, then go online and register for the information session of your choice, you only need to attend one of them. There will be 4 of them.

What a great cause!! Would love to be able to do this...but since I can't this year, I'll be helping support the members of the Asheville Hiking Meetup that will be doing the hike. I hope you will too!!

Hi Ken - Where does the 1/2 distance hike originate and end? Is the trail easy, moderate or strenuous most of the way? Thanks.

    • Ken L.

The trail I would rate as Moderate because it starts at a higher elevation and goes down to the Chattooga River. There's "up and downs", but mostly it's downhill. Just check out my GPS track: http://connect.garmin...

Ken ~ I noticed that your Garmin stats page didn't include weather info for last year's hike. This is the closest weather station I could find to the area. http://tinyurl.com/b9zkbz4

Great Pam. You'll have to wait until the participants setup their donation website in a few weeks. It's great to see an early eagerness to donate to such a great cause :)

This hike was a blast last year. The whole team was great, and the CureSearch staff really put together a first-rate Hike Weekend. We had some participants that treated this as a cross country marathon, and others that were just looking for a moderately paced challenge. We even had some participants that had never hiked before. The route is well planned, with several "aid stations" along the way so that you don't have to carry a full day's worth of water, food, etc. I'm looking forward to another great experience this year!

Please RSVP to let others know in the group who else may be thinking of doing this. It helps to know how many people you can rely on for fund raising efforts.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
