We will begin at Deep Creek Campground and head up Deep Creek Trail about 4-5 miles and then return on the same route to the trailhead. Here is a link with more information about the trail we'll be on. (click on any image for a larger view)
This is presumably a great area and time of year to see the wildflowers, however don't ask me what they are!!
There are 3 waterfalls in the area to visit. Tom Branch Falls, Juney Whank Falls, and Indian Creek Falls. All of these falls are in close proximity to the start of the trail and Deepcreek Campground rather than up along the trail.
Since this is the Smokies, dogs are not allowed.
Campsite 57, Bryson Place is where Horace Kephart's last permanent camp was located. (We won't be going quite that far, but it's interesting) Mr. Kephart was an early and inspiring advocate for the establishment of the park and spent many years living with and writing about mountain people. Click on this link for a bit more biographical information on Horace Kephart. Mt. Kephart, near Charlie's Bunion and Mt. LeConte is named after him. Deep Creek Trail was one of the first trails constructed in 1932 after the park took possession of the land.
We will meet at the Earthfare at Westgate plaza at 8:30 AM. It is approximately a one hour and fifteen minute drive to the trailhead. I anticipate arriving at the trailhead at Deepcreek Campground around 10:00 AM. We will return to Earthfare around 4:30. These are just estimates so plan accordingly so we don't need to rush back for any other engagements.
