Warren Wilson River Trail Hike

  • Apr 26, 2013 · 9:00 AM

This is a flat trail that runs along the Swannanoa River.  We'll meet at the Ingles parking lot and leave by 9:10 in a shuttle to the Warren Wilson River trailhead.  We keep a good pace at about 3 miles per hour.

Sorry to miss you guys! I was at a different tunnel rd Ingles, oops. Went for a hike at WW anyway with another confused member of this group, and it was indeed lovely. Hope to meet you sometime soon!

    Sorry, but realistically, I
probably can't keep up with your 3+ mph pace. Walked the trail yesterday. It is a storybook setting. Happy Trails to all.

It is beautiful indeed. We repeat these hikes so we can keep the focus on fitness. I hope you find the group and pace you need.

I need to be back in AVL at about 12:15. Will this be a problem?

    April 22, 2013

    • Jeanne S.

Should not be a problem. We should be back to the Ingles parking lot by about 11:30 at the latest.

Yes. there are a couple of places with small hills, but nothing too terrible. The pace is the thing that's challenging.

I'm not familiar with "the Bull Creek". Will the hike still be a flat trail?

This hike is posted on both the Asheville Hiking group and the Mountains to sea trail hike. It's the same hike. We've not found a way to combine them into one announcement, so that RSVP's show up correctly for both groups. I'm an organizer for both groups. The river hike we'll do this week runs along the Swannanoa River and the Bull Creek. If there's any confusion, it's because of the two postings. If you're signed up for one, you're good to go. I'm checking both sites for RSVP's. I'll probably only be posting on the mountains to sea club page from here on out to avoid this confusion, so if you are interested in these weekday hikes, just become a member of the Mountains to Sea Trail club too and you'll get the regular announcements and updates. Wondering if I can do a part of this trail, and return solo. Know I can't do 6 miles. I'm a long-time athlete (professional biker and trainer, long-distance runner) who's developed a bit of arthritis from all of it in recent years. Just let me know. Thanks and Happy Trails.

I think you surely could. It's basically flat. It's the least strenuous hike we do, but we go at a good clip. We may take off on a side trail at a couple of different points, but if you wanted to go solo and head back you could just do so before we take a turn.
