Big Ridge Overlook to Mt. Pisgah--10 miles Moderate to Strenuous

Let's head to Mt. Pisgah on the shut-in trail. It's suppose to be a cool, dry day and I want to go up high. And at Mt. Pisgah we'll have a 360 degree view! There is an elevation gain of 2000' for the first half of the hike. The trail begins at MP 403.6 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The trail crosses over the parkway a couple times, so If anybody wants to make the hike shorter, you could meet at MP 404.5 or 405.5, but it would be up to you to figure out when we would come to those destinations. I'd like to have lunch at the top to spend time there to take it all in before heading back down.

We'll leave promptly at 9:30, so please make sure your visits to Ingles are completed. It will be about half hour drive from Ingles to the trail head. Please respond in the comment section if you plan on meeting at the trail head. Dogs are encouraged to come.

Beautiful day! Didn't know you weren't hitting Papa's And Beer - missed saying goodbye, Debra. See ya when I get back.

9 miles is fine with me. Michael Stephens said on FB that High Falls parking lot to Lake Dense to Bridal Veil and back = 6.1 miles. So that plus 9 tomorrow = 15 miles this weekend; not bad at all.

I'd trust mountain forecast more than weather dot come. One's based on the mountain, the other on the silly airport.

Debra...9 miles is perfectly fine with me!!!

Nine is fine (answering your email). But then, so is ten. Eleven is difficult (for ready rhyming at any rate).

It will be a little over 11 if we start at MP 402.6, or a little less than nine if we start at the next spot at MP 403.6, Big Ridge Overlook.

What is your estimate of how sunny will this hike be?

    May 23, 2013

    • Debra

My estimate is we'll be mostly covered for the majority of the hike.

A little worried the apparent extended proximity to the parkway. Think a prudent person would need to keep dogs on the leash much of the hike?

    May 23, 2013

    • Debra

I have not done this hike in several years. I remember most of the hike back far enough from the parkway for most of the hike.

I have a bad cold. 'Hopefully, I'll be able to get out and hike by the end of June.
