Hike in the Shelton Laurel Area on and near AT -- 10.5 miles
We are going to hike in the Shelton Laurel area of Madison County on and near the Appalachian Trail. We will start on the Jerry Miller Trail (yellow rectangular blaze) and go up 2500ft in 4.5 miles to the AT. Then hike on the NC-TN border on the AT for about 2.5 miles to the Fork Ridge Trail (yellow rectangular blaze) and down 2000 ft to Forest Rd 111 and back about 1/2 mile to the parking area. Driving time to the trail will be about 50-60 minutes and we will take I-26 up to the Flag Pond exit just across the TN state line and then follow me to the trail head about 10-12 miles away. Weather looks good for the morning but there may be rain in the afternoon so bring some rain gear and dress for highs in the low 80s . We will meet at 9am at the Earthfare-Westgate parking lot and leave for the trail at 9:15. This hike is a moderate to strenuous hike of about 10.5 miles and will offer some nice views when we get on top the AT that will make it worth the effort. Friendly dogs are welcome and we should have a great day on the trail. Hope to see you then!
