Let's hike to Charlie's Bunion in Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This hike is rated as a "moderate to strenuous" out and back and is expected to be approximately 9 miles. This trail has the Smokies character with a great view at a rock outcropping called Charlie's Bunion. Mt. LeConte can be viewed to the southwest from this overlook. Please be sure of your abilities before signing up for the hike.
We will meet at Earthfare at Westgate Parkway at 8:30 AM, arrange carpooling and depart for the trail by 8:45. It is approximately a one hour and forty-five minute drive to the trailhead. I anticipate arriving at the trailhead around 10:30.
We will break for lunch at the rocky overlook with a fantastic view so be sure to bring your favorite food and plenty of water. I don't plan on going at a race pace and plan to take enough time at the overlooks to soak it all in. For the dog lovers, I'm afraid dogs are not allowed in the Smokies.
We should be back to Newfound Gap about 4:00 PM and return to Earthfare by 6:00 PM. These are not definite times but just estimates so plan accordingly so we do not need to rush back for any appointments or other engagements.
