It's been a while since I've been able to lead a hike but now with the new car and a little time, it's time to head back out!
Who: Anyone's welcome to join us on this hike, leashed dogs are welcome as well.
What: BearWallow hike and exploring
When: we will meet at the Ingles in Fairview at 3 and leave promptly at 3:15.
We're heading out to one of my favorite local non-waterfall hikes.
It is a shortish hike with a GREAT payoff! Views galore (including Lake Lure)
here's a good description according to: http://www.hikewnc.info/trailheads/bearwallow-mountain/:
Right now, there is one excellent trail at Bearwallow Mountain (called the Bearwallow Mountain Trail), and by combining it with the gravel road which was traditionally used as the route to the top, you can make a great loop hike. The trail is beautifully constructed with some nice rock work, as it switches back and forth across the western ridge leading up to the summit. The trail is moderate overall, 1/2 mile in length, and moderately steep, with some obstacles in the trail (mostly rock and log steps). The gravel road is about the same, but with a smoother, gravel surface.
