I want to go hiking in the Shining Rock area and the weather looks pretty good for Sunday. Since the hike is in a wilderness area, it is limited to 10 people, and there are no signs or trail markers. Only experienced, in-shape hikers should sign up for this hike.
I want to take the Art Loeb trail from Camp Daniel Boone and hike up through the Narrows to Shining Rock, have lunch there, and then take the Little East Fork Trail back down to Camp Daniel Boone. This is about a 13 mile loop hike and there is about a 2800 foot altitude gain going up.
We will meet at the Cracker Barrel off of Smokey Park Highway at 9:00am and leave by 9:15am to drive to the trailhead (about 45 minutes).
We will keep a good pace and try to finish by 4 to 4:30pm.
Friendly dogs are welcome.
What to bring:
rain gear (just in case)
a donation for your driver to help offset the cost of gas
