GPS, compasses, and maps! 101

I have had a lot of inquiries from members about GPS units, compasses, and maps.

If you are wanting to learn how to use a map and compass or a GPS, feel free to join us!

If you do not own a GPS, but want to learn more about them, here is your chance!

Roughly what I'll show you how to do:

-get you bearings

-project a waypoint

-configure your GPS

-and we'll see how far that gets us!

Things to bring:

a map

a compass

your GPS (if you have one)

the normal hiking supplies.

If you do not have a GPS, we'll do our best to share.

We'll be doing a short 2-3 mile hike near Warren Wilson and will demonstrate using the different technologies.

Thanks and we'll see you on the trail!

Chris

Thanks for doing this Chris. I got the Garmin southeast map loaded on my GPS this afternoon and am looking forward to learning how to use it.

I don't have a GPS, but I have a compass on my phone. It works just like a regular compass.

    Hi Chris -
    1) Exactly what section of the Ingles parking lot will you be meeting?
    2) What are you driving?
    3) We have a compass, no GPS. You mentioned bringing a map. Of what, exactly?
    Thanks! - michele

If you are planning on going tomorrow, PLEASE bring your compasses or GPS units or both. I'll have a few but not enough for the entire group.

Any suggestions on a good "middle of the road", (trail), GPS unit that won't break the bank account?????

Chris, the RSVP is shut down. We talked about GPS units at the Root Bar. I'll look into buying one in the next day or two and if I do I'll definitely sign up for this.

I limited the group size to 10 so people can ask questions and get hands on experience. If there is enough demand, I'll do additional classes.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
