13 miles on AT

THE DRIVE

This is a shuttle hike. We will drive to carvers gap @ the AT, pay $35 to be taken to Roan Mountain and then hike all the way the hell back to our cars for some reason. There is also a $3 per car parking fee at the hostel.

$35 and parking fee to be split between all, and don't forget to pay your driver from Earth Fare too! It's about 1.5 Hrs to Carvers Gap, then a 30 min shuttle ride to Roan. Remember $3-4 doesn't buy squat for fuel anymore.

                                      THE HIKE

13 miles on the AT, rocky in places, fast pace strenuous hike. Please be sure of your abilities before you rsvp!!

Gorgeous views, huge balds, wooded. No water or hot dog stands; so pack it in.

Meet in the parking lot of earth fare. 8am sharp

This was suppose to be a fairly easy hike. I've done it twice before. Turned out to be one of the hardest hikes I've done.

I think all the other comments sums up the experience. I'm really looking forward as to how the heck you're gonna top this one ! It's never a dull moment with you Mike, is it ? Thanks for the survival training.

Outstanding Hike. This was an awesome hike with awesome people. Thanks Mike!!! Many First...riding in an open air shuttle with an ice floor. I realized that 13 miles meant 15.2 miles...LOL. First time hiking in 50+ MPH winds. First time watching it sleet upside down it was blowing so hard. Thanks for putting this hike together. I look forward to hiking with you again soon.

An adventure, no mistake. Well done indeed. Brutal brutal brutal. 30 degrees. 50/60 knot winds. 5000-plus elevation. Rime ice. Fog. Exceptional company. Brilliant all round ! Thirteen, fifteen, who's counting?

Sorry guys for the misrepresentation. I'm so ashamed. NOT!!
Seriously though, thanks for all the great spirits!!

Quite a challenge! The wind gusts on the AT were the strongest I've ever been exposed to. The views were outstanding before the clouds moved in. Hope to do the hike again in clear weather.

Wow, what a hike! Beautiful long range views in every direction at the start. Weather deteriorated in the middle wth freezing temps and gale force winds on top of the balds that made even walking quite a chore. Long downhill to the end with rocky intervals left us tired but happy. Thanks to a great group of hikers and to Bandit for organizing. Tremendous effort by everyone.

Yee-Haw! This started as a silly hike, but got pretty darn scary in the middle, and ended in exhaustion. A lot of us were hurting and had to dig deep, but "the fine crew" was no joke, and everyone was tough. I love you all and will hike with you anywhere.

    Hike stats:
    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/145371774
50-60 mph winds on balds. dense fog. Temp in the 30 at the top. Rime ice forming on us. Good times.

Wilderness areas are limited to groups of 10, no exceptions. Also, not everyone wants to hike w/a parade, and not all hike leaders are willing to keep up with more than 10-12 people.

Hey Charlie ! Can you feel the love ?

Thought that was understood (about tying Charlie to the hood)? Heck, thought Charlie WAS the hood.

It's true. I had no interest in this hike whatsoever until I saw Charlie's RSVP. Let's tie him to the hood.

Charlie. It's all you! Prior to your signing up, this was just a group of mediocre miscreants. You're bringing an element of sophistication and pinache making it a "fine" crew..

I feel so honored to hike with this group, I'll ride on top if need be. :)

I really hope we can squeeze 11 and 2 dogs in the shttle truck.
Oh, by the way, some of us will be riding in back. They said they've hauled 12 before.
