Davenport Gap to Mt. Cammerer on the AT - 11 miles - Strenuous

Let's hike from Davenport Gap to Mt. Cammerer in Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This hike is rated as a "strenuous" out and back and is expected to be approximately 10-11 miles. Please be sure of your abilities before signing up for this hike. It will have an elevation gain of about 3,000 feet over 5+ miles. This hike is subject to cancellation depending on the leftover rain from Hurricane Isaac. For some good information on this hike and area, here is a good link.

Bring the essentials, food, water & $$ for the driver.

We will meet at Ingles on Brevard Rd. at 8:30 AM, arrange carpooling and depart for the trail by 8:45. It is approximately a one hour drive to the trailhead. I anticipate arriving at the trailhead around 9:45.

I don't plan on going at a race pace and plan to take enough time at the overlooks to soak it all in. For the dog lovers, I'm afraid dogs are not allowed in the Smokies.

We should be back to the trailhead/parking around 3:30 PM and return to Ingles between 4:30 and 5:00 PM. These are not definite times but just estimates so plan accordingly so we do not need to rush back for any appointments or other engagements.

A small, warm, friendly group and a seemingly endless trail. It doesn't get much better. It felt great to be out on the trail with the AHG again.

Hi all! I'm new in town and trying to live green and get by without a vehicle. Can anybody give me a ride from Haywood Rd. in West Asheville? Thanks!
