Courthouse Falls and Devil's Courthouse

Let's meet at the Ingles on Champion Drive in Canton at 8::45 AM. We will meet-and-greet, form carpools, and head for the trail promptly at 9:00. We should get to the trailhead at approximately 10:00 AM. Trailhead parking is limited so let's get into as few cars as we can. This is a 2 part hike.

Part 1 - Courthouse Falls via Summey Cove Trail (trailhead off Hwy 215). This is an out-and-back hike with Courthouse Falls as our destination. Total round-trip distance is approximately 5 miles. This hike is rated as moderate to strenuous. We will be going up and over Big Fork Ridge and then down into Summey Cove before reaching Courthouse Creek and the falls. In my opinion, the most strenuous part of the trail is the spur trail to falls...it is steep and a little tricky (roots and rocks) and a set of steep stairs leads to the base. No fear; however, the spur trail is not that long. There are a few creek crossings along this trail but all are manageable.

Part 2 - Devil's Courthouse. Once we complete our trip to Courthouse Falls we will get back in our carpools and head to Devil's Courthouse off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It will take us approximately 10 minutes to get to the trailhead and overlook. Total round-trip distance is approximately 1 mile. This hike is rated as strenuous. This trail is mostly paved until you get closer to the top, so less chance of tripping over rocks and roots but it is a steady uphill climb. The view is well-worth the climb!!

Dogs are welcome and my car is always pup friendly.

What to bring:

  • water
  • trail snacks/lunch
  • shoes appropriate for hiking
  • camera
  • rain gear
  • a donation for your driver to help offset the cost of gas
  • anything else you need to have a safe, comfortable, and happy hike

I haven't been to Courthouse Falls in a long time and am really looking forward to getting back and sharing this fall with the group!!

This is a small group so please keep your RSVP up to date. If plans change and you are unable to attend, update your RSVP as soon as possible so that others on the waiting list have a chance to attend. Please be considerate of those on the wait list, no one likes a no-show!!

Weather was just about perfect for our trip. Great company and Courthouse Falls was beautiful, as usual. Devil's Courthouse was super windy and the views were great. Thanks, Amy and Craig!
