I'm going to hike Mount Pisgah, eat some lunch at the top, while enjoying the 360 degree view. Then afterwards I'm heading to Skinny Dip Falls, and even Frying Pan Lookout Tower on the way back home.
Mount Pisgah trail head is located at Milepost 407.6. From the parking area we will depart to the top on this 1.5 mile out and back hike, and is considered moderate to strenuous depending on your hiking ability. In the first half of the hike, you will gain about 200' in elevation. The other 550' are gained in the second half, so the second half is much steeper. The entire hike is very rocky. There can be some rooty and wet sections as well.
For the second part of the trip, we will head further north to Skinny Dip Falls. We will park at Milepost 417. We will depart the overlook and hike for a half mile on this rooty and rocky trail to this beautiful waterfall and swimming hole! Polar bear plunge anyone?
On the way back, those inclined to see one last good view, we can walk to the Frying Pan Lookout Tower at Milepost 409.6 with another 3/4 mile hike.
Please dress for the weather, bring snacks, food and whatnot, water, beverages, and well behaved leashed pets are welcomed!
Total trail miles will be around 5 miles. Not a long hiking day, but a good leg stretcher for a lazy clear day and some views on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and a nice drive.
