Okay let's try this again. Weather is expected to be good. A hike to Tanasee Bald and Herrin Knob, plus Silver Mine Bald by way of The Devil's Courthouse. Tanasee ridge is the southern extent of the Spruce-Fir forests in the eastern US. Both of these hikes are about 2 miles and for the most part moderate with some steep sections. There is about a 1/2 mile walk between trailheads. The 1st hike to Tansee Bald and Herin Knob is on a rough, little used, often hard to follow, and ungraded trail. We will leave the trail twice to reach the sumits of Tanasee Bald and Herin Knob. This trip is for expereinced hikers and will be a loop. The trail head is at the Herin Knob Picnic Area about 100 yards past the gate in Beech Gap. The 2nd hike is on a graded well used trail and will be an out and back hike. That trail head is at the Devil's Courthouse parking area on the BRP. If turn out is ten or less people we may venture into Middle Prong Wilderness.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is more than likely to still be closed. So we will be starting from the gate at Hwy 215 in Beech Gap. As we will be above 5000 feet the whole time, expect it to be cold. Bring food, water and dress in layers.
If the Blue Ridge Parkway is open we may meet-up somewhere else. As the meet-up point subject to change please check back. Be sure to bring cash for your driver. This is a dog friendly hike, however as we will for the most part be on NPS land, dogs must leashed.
