Bridal Veil Falls Loop - DuPont SF (~8.2 miles)

Let's meet at the Ingles on Brevard Road (across from Biltmore Square Mall) at 9:00 AM.  We will meet-and-greet, form carpools, and head for the trail promptly at 9:15AM.  We should get to the Reasonover Creek parking area (Fawn Lake Access Area) and trailhead at approximately 10:15AM.  There is a ton of parking so if you want to meet the group at the trailhead, please plan to be there no later than 10:15AM and let me know prior to the trip so that we don‘t expect you at Ingles.

Lake Julia, Bridal Veil Falls, and the Airstrip (starting at the Reasonover Creek parking area (Fawn Lake Access Area) in DuPont State Forest).
This is a loop trail with Lake Julia, Bridal Veil Falls, and the Airstrip as our destination points.  Total round-trip distance is approximately 8.2 miles. We will be hiking on a combination of Reasonover Creek Trail, Lake Julia Road, Conservation Road, Barn Trail, Bridal Veil Falls Road, Corn Mill Shoals Road, Shelter Rock Trail, Airstrip Trail, Fawn Lake Road, and Mine Mountain Trail.  This loop is easy to moderate with a few not-so-bad uphill sections for a total elevation gain of approximately 940 feet.  There are a few water crossings on this hike.  All are manageable with use of bridges in some locations and rock-hopping skills in other locations.  Check out the long rock hop of Reasonover Creek in the picture (top left).

The pace for this trip will be relaxed.  I like to soak it all in, take pictures, catch my breath on the uphill, check out plants along the trail, etc.  If this is not your hiking style, you may want to skip this trip.

Dogs are welcome and my car is always pup friendly.  There are lots and lots of mountain bikers on these trail and horses are not uncommon.  If your pup has issues with people on wheels or horses, this may not be a good trip for your dog.  Dogs MUST be on a leash at DuPont State Forest.

What to bring:

  • water
  • food
  • shoes appropriate for hiking
  • rain gear (just in case)
  • camera
  • a donation for your driver to help offset the cost of gas
  • anything else you need to have a safe, comfortable, and happy hike

This is a small group so please keep your RSVP up to date.  If plans change and you are unable to attend, update your RSVP as soon as possible so that others on the waiting list have a chance to attend. Please be considerate of those on the wait list, no one likes a no-show and please don’t just show up!!

Nice hike and all the rain that was endured this week was redeemed by the spectacular waterfalls. And as a bonus, got to listen to a great CD by our very own Carrie!

Hi Everyone - Saturday is shaping up to be a pretty day; however, considering all the rain we've been having I'm a little concerned about the condition of the rock-hop over Reasonover Creek. So, I think we will do this loop in reverse. This will give us alternate route options if we get to the crossing and the water is too high to cross safely. We'll take a vote when we get there. Bring an extra pair of socks in case it becomes more of a "wet" crossing! On the upside, Bridal Veil Falls should be raging and beautiful!

Hi Everyone - This is just a reminder to double-check your schedule for Saturday and update your RSVP if your plans have changed. This goes for those of you on the Waiting List, too. If you are on the Waiting List, you are indicating that you WILL go if given the opportunity. If this is not the case, please remove yourself from the Waiting List so that others aren't so far far down the line. Thanks!!
