Astoria Sunday Meetup @ Uncle George's

Come join your fellow writers, Sundays at Uncle George's Tavern!

This will be the 2nd Sunday meeting of the Astoria Writer's Group. During the first one, we decided to try to keep the meetups fairly small, <8 people.

During this meeting, we will hear from Mr. Todd Johnson reading the first chapter of his novel, The Velveteen Werewolf, as well as from Mr. Steve Monosson, reading the first chapter of his novel, The Ballad of Piechart John. Come out, have a beer (or tea) with us, give them feedback, encouragement and constructive criticism.

If you would like to have your work critiqued during this meeting, please write "SUNDAY," followed by your name and the title of your work in the uploads. Each person at the meeting should read the SUNDAY works before the meeting, and should bring them in on paper or in digital form so that we can all edit the works together.

Feel free to post ideas, requests, complaints, grumblings - whatever!- in the comments, so we can make these meetings better and better. Also, friend me on facebook (search Alexei Soma), where I am starting an Astoria Writer's Group facebook page.

Finally, big shout-out to Gerald Olouman who traveled all the way from BOSTON to attend the first meeting. He was late, but we had a cup of tea afterwards. He's awesome and I hope he visits us again.

Yours most sincerely,

Alex

This was an excellent meetup session, and it was great to see some new faces - welcome Katty, Nancy and Mike. Hope to see you next time! Thanks for all the feedback - every suggestion I felt was very helpful. Nook still freezing, but lots of warm conversation.

What gave you the idea it well, Khara? Todd kept bitching about how cold he was the entire time until it got so bad I had to slap him. Katty was furious no one advised her to read Todd's and my pieces beforehand, and so she spoke in nothing but an incensed Russian for most of the meetup. And Nancy told us that however much she might have liked our pieces, her ultra-critical boyfriend would surely have nothing good to say about either one of them. Maybe next week it'll go better....

(For the uninitiated, the above comment is pure fiction. Sunday's meetup was an excellent gathering.)

I'd give it 5 Stars, but I was I unofficially sorta running the show so I don't want to sound too egotistic(al?) about it.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this afternoon at our "frozen nook", as Todd would put it. Actually, it's a lot warmer today, so the nook should be that much more hospitable.

Hi guys, I'm very sorry, but I'm down with the flu. Been out of work since Thursday. I thought I'd be well enough to come today, but no such luck. Our nook is reserved for us, however. The reservation is under "Alex". I've asked Steve to facilitate the meeting. Hope the meeting goes well and that you guys are doing awesome, See you next Sunday, Alex

If once again there are no ladies present, I hope no one will mind if I temporarily hang my life-size Anne Hathaway poster on the wall in our nook. I think all will agree that it will simply help pass the time, and make it that much cozier.
