Astoria Sunday Meetup @ Uncle George's

Come join your fellow writers at Uncle George's Tavern!

We will be sitting in a nook towards the back, just ask the host for the "writer's group" or "Alex's table".

If you would like to have your work critiqued, please write "SUNDAY," followed by your name and the title of your work in the uploads. Each person at the meeting should read the Sunday works before the meeting, and should bring them in on paper or in digital form so that we can all edit the works together.

The group's agenda will be as follows:

3-3:15 - chill, chat, order food.

3:15- 5:15 - critique works

5:15 - 5:30 - chill, chat, pay the bill

When critiquing a fellow writer's work, please begin by telling the writer what WORKED for you in the piece, what you liked, what you enjoyed and why. It is as important for writers to know what they're doing right as what they're doing wrong. After you share what you enjoyed, offer suggestions for what can be improved! Each person will have a max of 5 minutes to offer feedback. The writer will listen without responding, and will then have 5 minutes for a response to the group.

Finally, let's make sure to all order some food so that we can be good guests of Uncle George, stay on his good side, and have him continue providing us space in the nook where we do our thang.

See you there,

you know, we talked about this last week or the week before, knowing in the back of your mind when something is not right with what you've written. I thought I'd be uploading this thing by now, but all the time something has been calling me and begging "edit me" "edit me" so you know what I'm doing now...

It is 11:09 PM on Friday, April 26. Is it too late to upload my book's intro for this Sunday? I'm sitting around waiting for an answer, but i might fall asleep.

    Hi all,
In case any of you are free and interested, I am doing a short 4 min set of a poetry reading this Friday, 4/26, 6pm @ Cornelia Street Cafe, 29 Cornelia Street, West Village. I will be reading early on, and it will start on time. Other poets will be featured; theme is "subversive" work and it is with a collective that friend/fellow poet began called the Anti-Tea Poetry Collective, with Bernard Block. The cost is $7 which includes a drink. It won't be a long event, so if you have time and are free, please stop by and bring a friend. It's a nice venue with good food!

    Otherwise, see you Sunday!

Hi. There have been many things getting in the way of writing (and reading) lately. Also, I'd love to go to the poetry reading but I work (in queens) until 6:30.
SORRY, I am terribly behind in reading everyone's work and now I'm finding more trouble with my own that I thought I'd have submitted by now. I am still planning to be there on sunday so I'll see you then and try to get some writing and reading done before then. If there are already enough submissions for this sunday, mine can wait (even if I do get it ready to submit). See you on Sunday

Yes guys, I feel super guilty for makin you all read my story and then being too hungover to come. As to The Coach's question, it was a combination of white and red wine and Maker's Mark that laid me down so low. :)
