Astoria Monday Meetup @ Zorba's

Come join your fellow writers at Zorba's!

We will be sitting at some tables outside, so we should be super easy to find.

If you would like to have your work critiqued, please write "SUNDAY," followed by your name and the title of your work in the uploads. Each person at the meeting should read the Sunday works before the meeting, and should bring them in on paper or in digital form so that we can all edit the works together.

The group's agenda will be as follows:

7-7:15 - chill, chat, order food.

7:15- 9:00 - critique works

9:00 - 9:15 - chill, chat, pay the bill

When critiquing a fellow writer's work, please begin by telling the writer what WORKED for you in the piece, what you liked, what you enjoyed and why. It is as important for writers to know what they're doing right as what they're doing wrong. After you share what you enjoyed, offer suggestions for what can be improved! Each person will have a max of 5 minutes to offer feedback. The writer will listen without responding, and will then have 5 minutes for a response to the group.

See you there,

Alex

Thank you ladies and gents for your great notes. I will take them all in editing my piece. They were very useful and that it why I joined the group. But you surprised me with great company and inspiration to write...

I just hope our feedback will encourage you to come out of your shell and be just a little bit daring in your work. ;-)

We missed you last night. And please keep in mind the heads-up I gave you on Sunday, that next week it will be June, which like May, isn't February. I hope I've given you enough lead time to make any adjustments so that you don't miss any upcoming meetings.

i rsvped that i am attending on 5/27, but isn't it some kind of holiday on that day? most likely, i still will attend, but i didn't realize earlier that it is no longer february.

Monday is Memorial Day, and we are in the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, a span entirely in the month of May. There *are* holidays in February, just not Memorial Day. Perhaps that's what's got you confused, Dan. In any event, both meetups are going on as planned, as far as I know. Looking forward to seeing you, as always, sir.

what it is is that in february, my birthday occurs. that is probably what threw me off since it seems like it was just yesterday. in any event i still plan to be there where ever and when ever.

Love Zorba's for this meetup - I think it worked really well last time. Unfortunately, due to my family visiting I won't be able to attend. Next week should be open, though. Enjoy the meeting! I hope it's less moist this time.

You will of course be missed, Mr. J.

and it was a very good discussion. it helped me make it more clear to myself, (hopefully to others too) that my writing is for myself. Thanks.
hopefully there are a couple more crazys like me out there, who will enjoy what i write and shell out the quarter million to make it worth my while. and yes, i could join a creative writing group or a poetry group but as i may or may not have appropriately expressed, novels, poetry, creative writing or whatever, my goal is to write (finish writing) my book and go and sell it. i think that falls within the scope of this group. other groups seem kind of limiting and restricting to me. i liked some of the suggestions for a shut up and write, (but not shut up completely).

Hey ya'll, For those who weren't at the last meeting, yes, our regular Sunday meetups at Uncle George's are switching to Monday evening meetups at Zorba's, where the people are much sweeter. Really hope you can make it. We have also been talking about creating a Sunday Shut up And Write group, and Steve has volunteered to try to get that going. If anyone would like to help co-organize the Sunday group, please let me know, because Steve may not be able to make it every week. Also, I really enjoyed our last meeting. I think we are still experimenting with the right format for having discussions, and we'll need to figure out in the future how to have discussions that get everybody involved. Still, thank you to Dan for being brave enough to bring up questions that were important to him. Thems be my two cents, Alex
