Astoria Writers Write(!)

  • May 11, 2014 · 5:00 PM

5:00-5:15: Requisite fifteen minute schmoozing.
5:15-6:15: We write for an hour, a la the "Shut Up & Write" meetups.
6:15-6:25: Replenish mind and body after intense and gratifying writing session via the ordering of food and drink.
6:25-8:00: We critique, in a a supportive way, two pieces from group members. The two pieces will have been designated the previous week. These files are available through the "Files" section on this site.
8:00: Sad farewells, until next week.

We look forward to seeing you at the Sunday AWG Meetup. Any questions, please feel free to contact us through this site.

PLEASE NOTE: You must attend at least one meetup before submitting a piece for review.

PLEASE NOTE AGAIN: It's probably a good idea to bring headphones and a music player, as it's unpredictable what sort of background noise is going to be going on during the writing session.

All files to be critiqued on Sunday are available from the "Files" section, which is under the "More" Menu at the top of the page. The direct link to the "Files" page is:

I won't be here Sunday but wanted you guys to know about a book event:

The Astoria Bookshop and Black Balloon Publishing invite you to join us for a Book Swap on Sat. May 10, 2014 at 5pm.
    [masked]st St - near Broadway N/Q stop

FREE event with free wine, and lonely books in dire need of swapping.

Author Kevin Clouther will be the "Swapper of Honor" to celebrate the publication of his new story collection, WE WERE FLYING TO CHICAGO. Kevin is an Iowa Writers' Workshop graduate, winner of the Richard Yates Fiction Award for best short story, creative writing instructor, and coordinator of Stony Brook University's Program in Writing Reading Series.

    The Rules:
    1. Arrive with one book that you’ve already read and would maniacally recommend to anyone within earshot.

    2. With wine in hand, take a seat across from someone you don’t know. You have one minute to pitch them your book; they have one minute to pitch you their book.

    Hi everyone,

It looks like we have two items for review on Sunday 5/11. One is from Dave; a big file but only Chapters 3 and 4 are being critiqued. The other is mine. I wasn't sure I'd make it on Sunday, but as it turned out, my family did its mother's day thing on Friday.

As usual, you can get the write-ups by clicking on More and then Files, or you can use these direct links.
