The 30th Annual NOVAC Star Gaze

I'll be at the event helping out, so I can't set this up, but I thought I'd pass the info along.

NOVAC invites you to the largest public star gaze in the Washington DC area. Learn about astronomy while enjoying the night sky with hundreds of telescopes, binoculars and homemade projects. Many experienced astronomers will be on hand to answer questions and share their knowledge.

You do not need to be a member of the club or own any astronomical equipment to attend. All you need is an interest in the wonders of the cosmos. Easy access, lots of equipment and a dark sky make for a good night under the stars. Please join us! More details here:

I didn't recognize anyone from their photos, but if you went I hope you enjoyed the day. Mother nature seemed to cooperate with us and gave us a fairly nice day.

I'm a novice astro-photographer, if I can provide any help or if you'd like to attend any NOVAC events (monthly public nights), just give me a yell!

If you want to be guaranteed to see some telescopic sights this weekend, consider dropping by the Great Falls (VA) Observatory Park public viewing session tonight (Friday). Tonight's forecast calls for clear skies.

The weather forecast for Saturday night's NOVAC Stargaze is predicting mostly cloudy conditions after sunset, so don't be too disappointed if there isn't much to see through the telescopes there. However, this is a rain or shine event with many activities and some excellent speakers this year, so I still recommend going, especially if you're considering getting into amateur astronomy and would like to see lots of different types of amateur telescopes set up. NOVAC is a very freindly group and its members are always happy to talk about their equipment and about amateur astronomy in general.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
