World-Wide Telescope

Hey,

This is a pretty cool application. At the Mason-Dixon star party everyone was raving about this. This is free to download but a high-speed internet connection is recommended as it dynamically updates the data. You can supposedly use it to control your telescope but I haven't tried that yet.

An equipment review site that looks pretty good is Cloudy Nights. One of the main people involved with this site gave a talk on new equipment, a self-professed "gearhead" - he seemed to know what he was talking about. This should help you spend that expendable income.
