HERE'S AN UPDATE ON THE VENUS TRANSIT EVENTS AS OF JUNE 5 AT 11AM!
The RASC and Douglas College transit events are rain or shine!
The RASC is at two locations: SFU, and Vanier Park (if we can see the Sun) or inside the Space Centre (if we can't).
Volunteers will stand by with telescopes at both RASC locations, and at Douglas College, until near sunset, in case there is even partial clearing! Live feeds from observatories in Hawaii will also be available at all three locations. And all three locations will be ready by 2:30PM.
At Douglas College, it's Room 3903 for both the simulcast and observing, and you can contact Jennifer Kirkey at[masked] for more information, including real-time updates on their status.
For the SFU event, you can contact Ciara Morgan-Feir at[masked] for updates, and it's room AQ4150 for both the simulcast and for observing, one floor up from the main south concourse of the Academic Quadrangle. A specialized telescope that offers stunning views of solar activity will be available. The location of the SFU event is circled in red on this campus map.
Finally, we'll be at the Space Centre - unless the there is even partial clearing, in which case we will relocate to Vanier Park, near the big rectangle. We will also have specialized solar telescopes at the ready. The Space Centre will have a simulcast and other activities - admission by donation - and they will open the GMSO if skies clear.
Keep rooting for clear(ing) skies this afternoon and evening!
President, RASC Vancouver
