The Tulsa Atheists Meetup Group Message Board › Why I am resigning as Organizer

I have been the Organizer for Tulsa Atheists Meetup since (I think) 2004. We have met at Zarrow Library, Border's Bookstore, Hideaway Pizza, Full Moon Cafe, and most recently, the Agora Coffee House. Currently there are more than 200 members in TAM. I just wish that more people who sign up on the web site would actually come to meetings.
It is time for some new blood in this organization. Kenny Nipp will be taking over as organizer. Kenny has my full support. He has natural leadership talents which I never had. Please give him your support and work with him to advance atheism. Bob Noble has resigned as treasurer. Bob turned over the club funds to me at today's meeting. When I got home and my wife found out that I had the club funds (Bob's check for $304.00) with me, she objected strongly. She demanded that I resign ASAP. So in order to keep peace in my home, I will have no alternative but to resign. (This is more fallout from the Rayven/Abbey controversy from last year.) I will add election of a treasurer to the agenda for next month. If no one volunteers to fill this role, we might have to close this meetup down. Whatever course of action is taken in this regard will be up to Kenny. I would love to continue in a leadership role, but my wife wants me to withdraw. My future with freethought in Oklahoma may soon be coming to an end. |

I had no idea my turning over the funds would cause you problems at home. That is the last thing I wanted as I have always thought highly of you and your wife. Had I known this would cause a problem, I would have held the funds for the next treasurer.
Time constraints no longer permit me to attend the meetings on a regular basis and I'll attend meetings and events when I can. Your treasurer, if the group decides they need one, should be someone who can attend all meetings. The group may want to just consider turning the funds over to the new organizer. Good luck, Dan. You will be missed. I appreciate what you've done for the Tulsa freethought community and I hope to see both you and your wife in the future. I hope the both of you enjoy your break. |
