From Don Butts, The MS Atheist Experience <[masked]>:
Note to all: The French journalist Doan Bui will be here this weekend and wants to do a story on atheism in what is probably universally perceived as the most religious state in the most religious country on the planet. . . .
They will meet at the U-U church in Jackson and are invited to visit our group the following Sunday 14 October. Will keep us informed as their plans shape up.
From Don Butts
11:40pm Oct 7 She's leaving Tuesday. . . . She didn't ask a lot of questions, just started us off, and we all related some of our experiences and how we became atheists, about our fear of discrimination in the workplace, the places where prayer is part of the day in some workplaces, the greetings we hear, such as "Where do you go to church?" and "Have a blessed day." She told us about how life in France was virtually all secular, that the churches there are virtually empty, that you would be thought a little nutty if you brought up religion in a conversation. It was interesting. She's going to send me a copy of the article when it's published.
So -- No-show for a visit to the Gulf Coast.
We have been a social group with interesting conversation and shared dinner. Any other ideas for program? For future meetings? Participate in community events? Political campaigns? (We are hosting strategic call parties at Harmony Hall, e.g. on Sat 13 Oct.)
Call or e-mail me with suggestions.
